God Rewards Desperate Faith, part 2 - The Gentile Woman.

March 9th, 2018

"Sorry, I wasn't sent to help dogs." You know, we don't really expect words like that to come out of Jesus' mouth...but they did. Here's the quote. "It isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs." (Matthew 15:26) Now if you stop there in the text, it sounds horrible. Okay, even if you read the whole text including Jesus agreeing to help the woman, it sounds terrible. BUT if you learn the context and take the language and God's plan into account, this is a profound story of mercy and compassion, one that should encourage us to reach out with a desperate faith that God rewards!

The Allegation Circus - Addressing the Culture of Accusation

February 4th, 2018

ACCUSATIONS! ALLEGATIONS! INNUENDO! Satanic tools used to bring down political opponents, partners in poisoned relationships, tearing down co-workers to get ahead - we are surfing a TIDE of allegations. True, some are based on facts. Some are based on rumor, hearsay, or outright lies. Did you think about this recently? Where are the are Judge Roy Moore's accusers now that the Judge lost his Senate race? Or President Trump's accusers now that he won the presidency? How do we handle a Sen. Franken's accuser who has photographic evidence vs. Judge Moore's accusers who presented none and one whose "evidence" was proven false. Once the damage is done, what can one do? We all face accusations from time to time - some are inconsequential, some can be devastating! How should we deal with this circus of allegations whether we're a spectator or the main event in the ring? Take a listen to this hard-hitting episode as the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry unpack these questions!

Atonement and the JOY of Forgiveness!

September 29th, 2017

The burden of sin and guilt! Kind of like a truck parked on your heart and soul, right? We have ALL experienced the heaviness of the guilt of sin and the dread of God's punishment. Even Bible people like King David knew this awful condition. But there is a JOY that sweeps over us when we finally confess all to God and He FORGIVES us! There is a joy and release in this experience that is beyond measure. If there is such joy when we let go of our sin and guilt, why do we resist the tapping of the Holy Spirit on our hearts? Take a listen as Jay, the Truth Barista, and Amazing Larry walk through Psalm 32.

Discernment Ministries: Contending Without Being Contentious

September 24th, 2017

Discernment ministries. What are they? They are ministries that examine what is being taught across the Body of Christ to see if those teachers are faithful to God's word, or teach inaccurately or in error, or are outright deceptive. Discernment ministries are often looked at as the "defenders of the faith" and the "watchdogs of truth." However, some have developed a sharp and even vicious, un-Christian approach to their expose' function and are more pit bull than man's best friend.
While we should all be like the Bereans who "examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so" (Acts 17:10-11), there is a definite need and place for discernment ministries that examine and notify the Christian community of subtle and not-so-subtle deceptions and diversions from the truth of God's Word. And yet, how can they disagree with people without being disagreeable? Better yet, how do we deal with people who teach God's Word wrongly? How do we contend for the faith without becoming contentious? Listen as the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry toss this topic around!

The Joy of Trials!

August 12th, 2017

"But mankind is born for trouble as surely as sparks fly upward." Do you know who spoke these words that were recorded in God's very word? Most of us know him and he would certainly know a thing or two about trials and troubles. Yup, it was Job! (Job 5:7) No one will ever escape the trials of life. They try to minimize them or avoid them, but trials will come or way. But there is a sunny side to trials! (Yeah, right!) no really, there is. In fact, trials are one of God's best ways of shaping us into the people he wants us to be. (Yeah? Well I wish He were a little less interested in me right now!) Having trouble and trials, my friend? Take a listen and take comfort. Trials don't last forever, but what we gain from them does.
